Facing up to the antithesis
Non-Christians believe that the universe has created God. They have a finite god. Christians believe that God has created the universe. They have a finite universe. Non-Christians therefore are not concerned with bringing a child face to face with God. They want to bring the child face to face with the universe. Non-Christian education is Godless education. What is of most importance to us in education, that which is absolutely indispensable to us, is left out entirely.

Tim, this is an interesting quote. But what's your opinion of the book? Having been in David Field's fellowship group, I've been influenced to teach John and Micah in a home-school setting. Have you and Jane had any thoughts in that regard? Let me know if the book is worth reading...
Ian,
Hi!I will let you know about the book ... I am starting at the beginning (a good place to start I am told). It is a series of essays/addresses each about 20 pages long. I expect I will be blogging things that strike me, quotes I want to remember.
We are homeschooling Simeon - but he is only 20 months old, so that is the only option available to us as parents at the mo!! ;)
Specifically this summer we have been loving trying to count to 10, learning some words through nursery rhymes (Sing a Song of Six Pence etc.) and songs ('For God so loved the World', 'Pop, Bang' &'Wide Wide as the Ocean' are favourites at the moment), we are reading through his 'First Bible' (second time round ... there is a LOT missed out!) and talking about lots and lots of things around the house & garden and taking him swimming.
But seriously ... we are reading, praying and thinking about what to do in 3-5 years time.
How old are your young men now?
We loved being in Devon again for camp this year. Was south Devon as nice as the North coast weather wise in July?
Love to Linda & John and Micah
Tim
